My research interests cover several aspects of Computational Intelligence, Intelligent and Adaptive Systems, Evolutionary and Genetic Algorithms, Clustering, and Parallel and Distributed Computations, focusing mainly on applications in Bioinformatics and Biomedical Informatics, Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Neural Networks and Machine Learning, Intelligent Optimization, and real-world problem solving.

Nowadays, challenging real-world problems require the development and coordination of interdisciplinary approaches. Thus, my research approach is interdisciplinary and promotes the development and use of intelligent systems for data analysis and information management.

My research activity has led to publications in International Scientific Journals, such as the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, Pattern Recognition, Applied Soft Computing, Neural Processing Letters, Natural Computing, Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics, etc. and in Proceedings of high quality International Conferences, such as IEEE Conferences.
